Outsourced management controller: steer your performance with a dedicated talent

Management controller commenting on performance indicators on a board

Without reliable, up-to-date figures, it is hard to run a business. MaaSil recruits a dedicated management controller for you, embedded in your finance department. They work in your tools, under the responsibility of your CFO or your manager, and produce the analyses you need to make decisions.

The tasks of an outsourced management controller

The MaaSil management controller handles day-to-day financial steering:

  • Budget: preparation of the annual budget and its revisions, together with department heads.
  • Monthly reporting: production of indicators and commentary for management.
  • Variance analysis: comparison of actuals, budget and forecasts, and explanation of variations.
  • Dashboards: design and updating of steering tools by business line, site or client.
  • Forecasts: forecast updates and monitoring of projected cash flow.
  • Costs and margins: calculation of cost prices and analysis of profitability by product or project.
  • Closings: participation in monthly closings, provisions and consistency checks with the accounting.

Which companies is it for?

This role suits SMEs and mid-sized companies (ETIs) that want to structure their steering, start-ups and scale-ups that report to their investors, and multi-site groups that need to consolidate their indicators. It is also well suited to finance departments that want to free their CFO from producing reports so that they can focus on analysis.

Skills and tools mastered

We select qualified management controllers who master financial and cost accounting and know how to work with operational teams. Tools:

  • Advanced Excel: modelling, pivot tables, Power Query.
  • Visualization tools, such as Power BI, Tableau or Looker Studio.
  • ERP and accounting software, such as SAP, Sage, Cegid or Pennylane, among others.
  • Cash flow forecasting and budget planning tools, such as Agicap.
  • AI tools to speed up data analysis and the writing of commentary.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a management controller and an accountant?

The accountant records transactions and produces the accounts. The management controller uses this data to steer the business: they build the budget, analyze variances and feed management's dashboards. The two roles often work hand in hand.

Can they work without an in-house CFO?

Yes, as long as they report to a manager or a finance lead who validates their analyses. In small companies, they often work with the manager and the chartered accountant (expert-comptable).

How is our financial data protected?

Our talents work in secure premises, on equipment provided by MaaSil, in compliance with the GDPR. You manage access rights to your tools just as you would for an in-house employee.

How much does an outsourced management controller cost?

The price depends on working time and the level of experience you want. Recruitment, contract, payroll and equipment are included. See the Pricing page or ask us for a quote.
